About Brentwood

The neighborhood of Brentwood is one of affluent style as well as drama. It was the location of a devastating fire in 1961 and the site of O.J. Simpson’s murder trial in 1994. Brentwood began as part of a Mexican land grant and was developed in the 1880’s. It’s well known for hosting part of the pentathlon of the Summer Olympics in 1932.

Brentwood is a part of the Los Angeles Westside region and boasts of seven private schools as well as two public facilities. It’s known as a member of the “Three Bs” along with Bel Air and Beverly Hills. Situated at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, Brentwood is bordered by the San Diego Freeway, Wilshire Boulevard, the Santa Monica city limits, the Topanga State Park, and Mulholland Drive.

Homes in this area range from the high 500’s for condos to home prices up to $5 million. You’ll find beautiful contemporary and Mediterranean homes; many neighborhoods are architecturally controlled. There are large lots with sports courts and swimming pools as well as room for RV parking. And some entertainer’s decks have beautiful canyon and ocean views. Brentwood includes many sub-districts including Crestwood Hills which is a group of mid-century modern residences out in Kenter Canyon’s north area. Other sub-districts include Brentwood Circle, Brentwood Glen, Bundy Canyon, Kenter Canyon, and Mandeville Canyon.

While residents enjoy their true retreats, they are also only minutes away from fine dining and upscale shopping. There is much to do in the way of recreation in places like Brentwood's Barrington Recreation Center. This facility has an indoor gymnasium as well as a lighted baseball diamond and basketball courts. There are also lighted football and soccer fields. Visitors enjoy the community room, children’s play area, and picnic tables. The center is also home to the Barrington Dog Park.

There are a dozen coffee shops and restaurants at Brentwood Village at Barrington and Sunset. And a wonderful shopping and food center called the Brentwood Country Mart - opened in 1948 - is near the 26th Street and San Vicente Boulevard corner. There is also Vicente Foods, Whole Foods, and Ralphs.
